With my tons of experience and infectious enthusiasm, I have worked on all kinds of events at home and abroad : from company and wedding parties, to festivals, fairs and award shows such as the presentation of the Flemish Sports Jewels. I love a relaxed atmosphere and interact with your guests in a spontaneous, friendly way so that everyone feels at ease and enjoys the moment.

Each candidate goes home with a few successful, self-made caricature sketches without any prior knowledge required. Looking back at the Flemish Sports Jewels 2023

With the end of 2024 in sight and a few more fun events on the agenda, I would like to look back on a special project from a year ago. On December 14, 2023, the Flemish Sports Jewels were awarded in Dome Eventhall in Brussels, organized by Sport Vlaanderen. It was a very pleasant celebration of top performances, where, among others, Lotte Kopecky was named Best Top Athlete of the Year. Other winners were Rachid Meziane (Best Top Sports Coach), DoCoLab (Best Top Sports Supporter) and FriS vzw, which received the award for Warmest Sports Initiative. The event exuded sporting class and human warmth.

I had the honor to be part of this evening, thanks to SPRDLUX Events from Turnhout, who hired me as a live caricaturist. The setting of this edition was 'Montmartre in Paris' - a theme that was fully reflected in the decoration. There was an atmospheric accordionist, a decor full of Parisian charm and for me a nice place on the stage with my easel. The idea: drawing live caricatures of some famous faces that played an important role during the show.

The plan was that I would supposedly only draw Ben Weyts. During the show, the screen of my iPad was occasionally shared on the big screen, so that the audience could watch the drawing come to life. What no one outside the client knew, was that I was also secretly busy drawing Linde Merckpoel and Maarten Van Gramberen (as a surprise).

Linde knew I would draw Maarten and Maarten knew I would draw Linde, but neither of them knew I would draw both of them! This meant that I had to be very precise when sharing my screen so as not to give anything away. Luckily, I had a clear time schedule: my screen was shared as soon as a winner had received their award and walked off the stage. But even with that certainty, it was quite exciting to show the pieces of the 'correct drawing' each time.

When Ben Weyts' drawing was finished, the surprise caricatures of Linde and Maarten were revealed! Their reactions? Surprised at first, but they quickly showed a broad smile.

This evening was definitely a challenge in terms of flexibility! The professionalism of SPRDLUX Events and the great atmosphere in the room were the perfect support! Thanks again to everyone who made this event such a success!

Terugblik op de Vlaamse Sportjuwelen 2023

Met het einde van 2024 in zicht en nog een paar leuke events op de agenda, blik ik graag terug op een bijzonder project van een jaar geleden. Op 14 december 2023 vond in Dome Eventhall in Brussel de uitreiking van de Vlaamse Sportjuwelen plaats, georganiseerd door Sport Vlaanderen. Het was een zeer gezellige viering van topprestaties, waar o.a. Lotte Kopecky werd uitgeroepen tot Beste Topsporter van het jaar. Andere winnaars waren Rachid Meziane (Beste Topsportcoach), DoCoLab (Beste Topsportondersteuner) en FriS vzw, dat de award voor Warmste Sportinitiatief in ontvangst mocht nemen. Het evenement ademde sportieve klasse en menselijke warmte.

Ik had de eer om deel uit te maken van deze avond, dankzij SPRDLUX Events uit Turnhout, die me inschakelde als live karikaturist. De setting van deze editie was ‘Montmartre in Parijs’ – een thema dat volop werd doorgetrokken in de aankleding. Er was een sfeervolle accordeonist, een decor vol Parijse charme en voor mij een leuke plek op het podium met mijn schildersezel. Het idee: live karikaturen tekenen van enkele bekende gezichten die een belangrijke rol speelden tijdens de show.

Het plan was dat ik zogezegd alleen Ben Weyts zou tekenen. Tijdens de show werd het scherm van mijn iPad af en toe gedeeld op het grote scherm, zodat het publiek mee kon kijken hoe de tekening tot leven kwam. Wat buiten de opdrachtgever niemand wist, was dat ik stiekem ook bezig was met het tekenen van Linde Merckpoel en Maarten Van Gramberen (als verrassing).

Linde wist wel dat ik Maarten zou tekenen en Maarten wist dat ik Linde zou tekenen, maar geen van beiden wist dat ik ze allebei zou tekenen! Dat betekende dat ik tijdens het delen van mijn scherm heel precies moest werken om niets te verraden. Ik had gelukkig een duidelijk tijdsschema: mijn scherm werd gedeeld van zodra een winnaar zijn award in ontvangst had genomen en van het podium liep. Maar zelfs met die zekerheid was het behoorlijk spannend om telkens de stukken van de ‘juiste tekening’ te tonen.

Toen de tekening van Ben Weyts klaar was, volgde de onthulling van de verrassingskarikaturen van Linde en Maarten! Hun reacties? Eerst verrast, maar al snel toonden ze een brede glimlach.

Deze avond was sowieso een uitdaging wat flexibiliteit betreft! De professionaliteit van SPRDLUX Events en de geweldige sfeer in de zaal waren hierbij de perfecte steun in de rug! Nogmaals bedankt aan iedereen die dit event zo geslaagd maakte!

Cartoons draw on the Grabbelpas

During the spring break, Jasper came to give a 'Drawing Caricatures' workshop to budding teenagers!
A challenging target group but apparently one with loads of talent. The children learned from Jasper to look for unique or typical characteristics of people and then convert them into a caricature.
Nice workshop and definitely worth repeating!

Top farewell gift

Beautiful and fun caricature as a farewell gift!

Through a colleague who had seen Jasper at work, we came to him to have a caricature made of our outgoing mayor as a farewell gift.
The communication went very smoothly. We gave a number of typical features and photos and Jasper made a very nice and fun caricature of this.
Our outgoing mayor was certainly pleased with his gift!
