When we drop a bowl or plate, we do pick up the shards, but we often throw them straight into the garbage can. At best, we try to glue them together until you can no longer see that the item was broken.
The Japanese art form Kintsugi does the opposite. All shards are reconnected. The fracture lines are accentuated with gold. Golden scars as lines of force. Gilded cracks as a symbol of courage and resilience. Kintsugi helps us let go of our perfectionism and embrace the beauty of the imperfect, the weathered.
Sofie gives a 3-hour workshop in which you become acquainted with the philosophy and history of Kintsugi , the materials and the technique.
We discover how from something broken, a new creation can arise.
