Chemistry teacher wins UAF Award 2021 in Jaarbeurs Studio

Not for chemistry teacher Norhan Alsheikh Hidar
She won the UAF Outstanding of the Year award.
After Norhan had to flee Syria in 2014, it proved almost impossible to resume her career as a pharmacist in the Netherlands.
That is why she quickly retrained by a UAF project. Now she teaches chemistry to high school students.
The UAF is the oldest refugee foundation in the Netherlands. The foundation helps refugees to develop themselves further in the field of study and work.
With the UAF Award, the UAF draws attention to the potential and perseverance of refugee students and professionals.
Due to corona, the award ceremony had to take place digitally this year. It was a little tense beforehand, but the ceremony itself went well.
Campaign leader Lise van Zuilekom: "I was actually very relaxed. I could focus on the things that were important to me: showing what beautiful people there are and what their potential is."

Niet voor scheikundedocente Norhan Alsheikh Hidar
Zij won de Uitblinker van het Jaar-award van UAF.
Nadat Norhan in 2014 Syrië moest ontvluchten, bleek vrijwel onmogelijk om haar carrière als apotheker te hervatten in Nederland.
Daarom liet ze zich in sneltreinvaart omscholen door een project van UAF. Nu geeft ze scheikunde les aan middelbare scholieren.
Het UAF is de oudste vluchtelingenstichting in Nederland. De stichting helpt vluchtelingen zichzelf verder te ontwikkelen op het gebied van studie en werk.
Met de UAF-Award vraagt het UAF aandacht voor het potentieel en het doorzettingsvermogen van gevluchte studenten en professionals.
Vanwege corona moest de awarduitreiking dit jaar digitaal plaatsvinden. Van tevoren wel even spannend, maar de uitreiking zelf verliep prima.
Campagneleider Lise van Zuilekom: "Eigenlijk was ik heel ontspannen. Ik kon me richten op de voor mij belangrijke zaken: laten zien wat voor mooie mensen er zijn en wat hun potentieel is."
