For Event Confederation, a situation like the rave in Brustem is unacceptable. We also like to organize parties, but not in this way.

Organizers and suppliers are expected to respect a laundry list of regulations. Control noise standards, ensure indoor air quality, use reusable cups, guarantee food safety, provide mobility plans, have safety & emergency plans available, set up access controls, guarantee separate waste collection, all this with respect for nature & the environment, a plan for transgressive behaviour, a plan for tackling drug & alcohol abuse, crowd control, public monitoring, communication & nuisance limitation for local residents, medical support, respect for legislation regarding personnel and voluntary work, security, VAT and taxes, all kinds of inspections, ... For those who want to organize an event, the bar very high, both for the professional and the

volunteer organizer and supplier.

By tolerating an initiative like the rave in Brustem for too long, the government seems to be using two sizes and two weights, and that is not possible for Event Confederation. It is even unacceptable. The security services are probably right that such a large area cannot be evacuated, but it could have been shut down much faster. Then the site and the surrounding area had quietly emptied in the hours that followed. By letting it take its course, a suction effect was even created and the nuisance and damage even increased.

By allowing this to happen, the government also loses its authority. How will the police and controlling administrations ensure that agreements are respected in the coming months? Having a final time respected, checking a noise standard, sky-high fines for a missing waste bin, etc. It is clearly not important for everyone.

The demands placed on an organizer are numerous and each has a valid reason and a specific purpose. Fine as far as we're concerned, but that should apply to everyone. This rave puts the sector in a bad light while the event sector is not involved at all. If we want to maintain and continue to grow a thriving event sector in this country, we must also ensure that everyone respects the laundry list of requirements and standards.
