successful birthday party

Yesterday we held a successful birthday party at Kasteel De Bunswyck from 4 to 7 am.

The sandwich meal and dessert buffet were excellent and the service smooth and friendly.
Only the wheelchair accessibility of the toilet was disappointing.

The bouncy castle that we ordered was a hit for the many young children.

A fair price for what we got.

Cool reception, chaos, poor value for money.

I posted the e-mail below a week ago and did not receive any response. I had indicated that I will not simply put my criticism on social media, but if there is no response, I can hardly do otherwise. Then it may help others.

Dear Peter,

After our communion party I would like to give some feedback. I sincerely hope you will learn something from this.

The reception today was cool to say the least. Our family members who arrived a little before noon found no indication of where to go, and called us. They just waited for us ...
When we got there at noon the first reaction was: "are you there already?" while that was agreed anyway.

Then I was allowed to lead our visitors to our room, where we found a sloppy table, to say the least: many tablecloths turned upside down on the table, napkins not ironed, several with holes in them.

Then wait 45 minutes for an aperitif, and more than an hour for a first bite. That doesn't seem very hospitable…

There was not much to criticize about the buffet formula except
- A very chaotic buffet where the guests of the different formulas did not find their way (especially with a hot buffet) and much was not replenished on time
- The buffet is shared with all guests who also have brunch with you. That is very misleading. You say that the buffet can be shared with others if there will be another party, but in fact it just means that you have a brunch buffet and that communion parties join it. That is downright misleading.

Table service of drinks today was very sparse and amateurish. It was said there was someone short of staff but it was really disappointing. I myself have several times fetched bottles from the bar to serve my own people.

The conclusion is not particularly positive. We made the best of it, but I still wanted to give you this feedback, in the hope that something will be learned from it. We still have several family members who have a communion party ahead of us and are active in a first communion work ourselves, but we really cannot recommend you with this service.

Ik heb een week geleden onderstaande mail gepost en geen enkele reactie gekregen. Ik had aangegeven dat ik mijn kritiek niet zonder meer op social media zet, maar als er geen enkele reactie komt, dan kan ik moeilijk anders. Dan hebben anderen er misschien toch iets aan.

Na afloop van ons communiefeest wil ik toch wat feedback geven. Ik hoop van harte dat jullie hier iets uit opsteken.

De ontvangst was vandaag op zijn zachtst gezegd koeltjes. Onze familieleden die er iets voor 12u waren vonden nergens een indicatie waar ze moesten zijn, en belden ons. Ze hebben dan maar op ons gewacht …
Toen we er om 12 u waren was de eerste reactie: “zijn jullie er nu al?” terwijl dat toch zo afgesproken was.

Vervolgens mocht ik zelf onze bezoekers naar onze zaal leiden, waar we een op zijn zachtst gezegd slordige tafel troffen: veel tafellakens omgekeerd op tafel, servetten niet gestreken, verschillende met gaten in.

Dan drie kwartier wachten op een aperitief, en meer dan een uur op een eerste hapje. Heel gastvrij komt dat niet over …

Op de buffetformule viel niet veel aan te merken behalve
- Een zeer chaotisch buffet waar de gasten van de verschillende formules hun weg niet vonden (vooral bij warm buffet) en veel niet tijdig werd aangevuld
- Het buffet is gedeeld met alle gasten die ook bij jullie brunchen. Dat is erg misleidend. Je zegt wel dat het buffet gedeeld kan zijn met anderen als er nog een feest zal zijn, maar eigenlijk komt het er gewoon op neer dat jullie een brunchbuffet hebben en daar communiefeesten bij aan laten sluiten. Dat is ronduit misleidend.

De bediening aan tafel van dranken was vandaag erg schaars en amateuristisch. Er werd gezegd dat er iemand te weinig aan personeel was, maar het was echt teleurstellend. Ik heb zelf meermaals flessen aan de bar gehaald om eigen mensen te bedienen.

De slotsom is niet bijzonder positief. We hebben er het beste van gemaakt, maar ik wilde toch niet nalaten jullie deze feedback te geven, in de hoop dat er wat uit geleerd wordt. We hebben nog verschillende familieleden die een communiefeest voor de boeg hebben en zijn zelf actief in een eerstecommuniewerking, maar met deze service kunnen we jullie echt niet aanbevelen.

Ik kijk van harte uit naar jullie reactie. We weten hoe anderen wellicht al snel hun evaluatie op social media posten, maar we houden er aan om jullie via deze weg onze feedback te bezorgen, hopende dat jullie er iets uit opsteken.
