MaisonRouge makes vacant offices in Ghent temporarily available to students
Since the lockdown came into effect and the events sector came to a standstill, the offices of MaisonRouge have been quiet and empty. We recently came across an article in which the Ghent Student Council is looking for suitable block locations for students, or quiet rooms to take an online exam. The article states that 9.4% certainly does not have a quiet space for an online exam and that 12% does not have a quiet block space. Due to the closure of locations such as the library and the Therminal (block location of the Ugent), the option of optimally preparing for exams is no longer possible for many students. We had no doubts and registered our office in Ghent as a block location. An additional advantage was that the office was already fully prepared as a physical distancing proof workplace for a possible restart in the future. For example, we have established a one-way walking direction and the desks have been rearranged to guarantee distance. In addition, disinfectant gel is available at various places and anyone who wants to can get a mouth mask from us. There are also sufficient windows to ventilate the room and a maximum number of people is allowed in the room to guarantee the mutual distance. We work with a reservation system to make sure everything runs smoothly and also ask you to fill in an attendance list in case there is contamination and the contact tracers need to know who was present. Of course we hope not to need this and assume that those who do not feel healthy would prefer to stay at home. We also give confidence to the people who are there, because of course someone from MaisonRouge cannot always be present. That is going very well at the moment and we are happy that we can support the Ghent students a bit in this way.

Sinds het ingaan van de lockdown en het stilvallen van de evenementensector liggen de kantoren van MaisonRouge er stil en leeg bij. We botsten onlangs op een artikel waarin de Gentse Studentenraad zoekt naar geschikte bloklocaties voor studenten, of stille ruimtes om een online examen af te leggen. In het artikel wordt vermeld dat 9,4% zeker geen stille ruimte heeft voor een online examen en dat 12% geen stille blokruimte heeft. Door de sluiting van locaties als de bibliotheek en de Therminal (bloklocatie van de Ugent), valt de optie om zich optimaal voor te bereiden op examens voor heel wat studenten weg.
We twijfelden dan ook niet en registreerden ons kantoor in Gent als bloklocatie. Bijkomend voordeel was dat het kantoor al helemaal voorbereid was als physical distancing proof werkplek voor een eventuele heropstart in de toekomst. Zo hebben we een one way walking direction ingesteld en zijn de bureaus herschikt om afstand te garanderen. Daarnaast is er op verschillende plaatsen ontsmettingsgel aanwezig en kan wie wil een mondmasker van ons krijgen. Er zijn ook voldoende ramen om de ruimte te verluchten en er is een maximaal aantal mensen toegelaten in de ruimte om de onderlinge afstand te kunnen garanderen.
We werken met een reservatiesysteem om alles vlot te laten verlopen en vragen ook een aanwezigheidslijst in te vullen voor het geval er besmetting zou zijn en de contact tracers moeten weten wie aanwezig was. We hopen dit natuurlijk niet nodig te hebben en gaan er van uit dat wie zich niet gezond voelt, toch liever thuis blijft. We geven ook het vertrouwen aan de mensen die er zijn, want er kan natuurlijk niet steeds iemand van MaisonRouge aanwezig zijn. Dat verloopt momenteel zeer goed en we zijn blij dat we de Gentse studenten toch een beetje kunnen ondersteunen op deze manier.
